Christopher Walking, Twin Pines, Airman Trout, and Leaky Soups at The Don’t Tread on Me House, East Falls. May 24, 2013

This was an awesome house show in Northeast Philadelphia, and the first show at the Don’t Tread On Me House. The first band I saw was Airman Trout, who had some crazy music which they blasted along with the singer’s extremely raw vocals. A very energetic performance by a three piece band. Next up was Leaky Soups, who consisted of the three members of Airman Trout along with a ukelele player who also offered a softer voice with some very meaningful lyrics. This band seemed to be the sensitive side of Airman Trout, and it was great. Twin Pines, Alex Lindquist of Crybaby, played a solo set of his own songs, but was able to have the energy of a full band. His guitar playing was tight and his vocals are perfect for an acoustic set. His lyrics and sing-along melodies made for one of the best sets of the night. Check out the bandcamp below for an awesome full band EP. Christopher Walking was awesome. I don’t like to compare any bands to Algernon Cadwallader, but these guys definitely reminded me of them, plus some more angst. An awesome band with shredding guitar and passionate yelling and singing. I cannot wait to hear more from this band.

Placeholder, Family Vacation, and Twin Pines at The Billiards Room, North Philadelphia (Temple), March 2, 2013

Twin Pines showed promise in their debut show, with catchy melodies, many different guitar parts, and hard hitting drums. Their lyrics will hit home for any college kid or young adult, and they are as relatable as any band out there. They could have been tighter, but it was their first show as a full band.

Family Vacation is an up and coming band from Philadelphia (Temple specifically) and if they do not get famous I will be surprised. Not only are they on point live, playing everything perfectly and with energy, they really bring the music to life. The ambience will catch your emotions up in the music and once the music explodes, so will you. They are a great band and an amazing group of guys.

Placeholder is a great punk band who played about twice as fast live. It was awesome. The raw vocals with the sing-along factor combine for an awesome basement show experience. Their full length and EP both provide some very good songs, and I cannot wait to hear their forthcoming album later this year.  Check out all the bandcamps below.
